First home
In Scotland 67% of people are owner-occupiers. In 2003/04, 70 per cent of dwellings (18 million) in Great Britain were owner-occupied. This was an increase of 45 per cent from 12 million in 1981. In recent years the age at which people were able to attain their first property was lower than in the past due to the availability of mortgage deals.
